Job Summary

A seasoned Senior Legal Officer is required to support the company’s legal operations, ensuring full compliance with applicable laws, overseeing contractual matters, and offering strategic legal guidance across multiple business areas. The role involves contract development, regulatory advisory, dispute management, and participation in corporate governance activities.






Key Responsibilities


Lead the negotiation, preparation, and review of complex commercial contracts such as NDAs, consultancy arrangements, acquisition-related documents, partnership agreements, and joint venture frameworks.


Handle routine legal queries from various business units, especially those tied to commercial transactions.


Provide direction on dispute resolution matters, including litigation and arbitration processes.


Advise on regulatory and compliance matters and help establish policies, procedures, and compliance monitoring practices.


Deliver updates on legal and regulatory changes and guide the business on how these impact operations.


Create and refine contract templates and legal documentation tailored for internal use.


Travel when necessary to business offices and project locations.


Oversee the drafting and review of legal agreements, contracts, and internal policies to maintain alignment with statutory requirements.


Offer guidance on legal and regulatory issues and liaise with relevant authorities when required.


Work with senior leadership to address legal implications of public policy matters.


Interpret applicable Nigerian and international legal frameworks and provide appropriate recommendations.


Stay informed on evolving legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to the organization.


Support statutory filings, CAC processes, property title documentation, and related legal formalities.


Assist in preparing board resolutions, meeting schedules, and extracts of minutes.


Required Qualifications

LL.B and B.L.


Relevant postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.


Minimum of fifteen years of related experience.


In-depth understanding of industry-related regulations, legal risks, and emerging issues.


Experience in the oil and gas sector is beneficial.


Strong document management, legal research, communication, and drafting skills.


High attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.


Familiarity with government regulatory agencies, maritime law processes, and local content requirements.
