Job Summary

Visa is seeking a senior government relations and policy expert to lead its Government Affairs function across anglophone West Africa. The role focuses on shaping policy outcomes, engaging high-level government stakeholders, and advancing Visa’s regulatory, business, and strategic priorities across Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.










Key Responsibilities

* Develop and implement a Government Affairs strategy for the West Africa region, ensuring alignment with Visa’s global and regional policy objectives.

* Prepare and deliver policy briefs, regulatory analyses, position papers, and other strategic documents.

* Guide internal teams on policy trends and cross-border regulatory developments that impact business performance and innovation.

* Track and influence legislation and regulatory frameworks relevant to digital payments and financial services.

* Build and manage relationships with policymakers, regulators, industry associations, NGOs, and multilateral institutions.

* Represent Visa in key policy forums, stakeholder meetings, and industry discussions.

* Strengthen internal awareness of policy priorities through updates, training sessions, and briefings.

* Lead operational reporting, budgeting, and administrative elements of the Government Affairs function.

* Collaborate with regional and global teams across multiple departments including Legal, Marketing, Risk, Corporate Communications, and Product.

* Serve as a subject matter resource on regulatory issues for cross-functional teams.

* Travel regularly within anglophone West Africa to manage engagements and support regional policy initiatives.

Required Qualifications

* Minimum of eight years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or five years with an advanced degree.

* Background in Public Policy, International Relations, Law, or related fields.

* Extensive experience working in government relations, regulatory affairs, or public policy roles.

* Strong understanding of the digital payments landscape and its economic and social implications.

* Proven ability to evaluate and anticipate regulatory shifts affecting fintech and digital finance ecosystems.

* Strong political, regulatory, and business insight within anglophone West Africa.

* Excellent communication skills and ability to influence senior government and industry stakeholders.

* Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.

* Experience with budgeting, cross-functional coordination, and strategic planning.

* Strong analytical, innovative, and problem-solving capacity.
