Job Summary




Barry Callebaut, a global leader in chocolate and cocoa manufacturing, is seeking a Specialist, Food Safety to join its team in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec. The successful candidate will coordinate, execute, and implement food safety programs at one of the company’s largest production sites. This role involves managing audits, certifications, HACCP systems, and preventive controls while ensuring compliance with FSMA, SFCA, and GFSI FSSC standards.





Key Responsibilities


Coordinate and implement food safety programs (HACCP, GMP, allergen management, etc.) in line with corporate and regulatory standards.


Provide scientific and technical food safety support including risk assessments, validation studies, and training.


Lead internal and external audits, including certification programs (FSSC, Fair Trade, Kosher, Halal, Organic, Non-GMO).


Oversee HACCP and food safety plan development, validation, and continuous improvement.


Identify, assess, and mitigate food safety risks, implementing corrective and preventive actions.


Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain FSMA/SFCA compliance.


Direct and train plant management teams on food safety standards and procedures.


Support the site QA Director in maintaining certifications and ensuring consistent compliance with customer and regulatory expectations.


Conduct supplier and warehouse audits as required.


Lead or support projects focused on continuous improvement and process optimization.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science, or related discipline.


Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality and/or Food Safety within the food manufacturing industry.


Certification in GFSI or as a Certified Auditor preferred.


Prior experience designing and implementing HACCP and PCQI programs.


In-depth knowledge of FSMA, SFCA, FSSC, GMP, and pathogen environmental monitoring.


Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.


Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.


Experience with certification audits such as Fair Trade, Kosher, Halal, Organic, or Non-GMO.


Bilingual proficiency in French and English (required).


Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and lead teams effectively.


Strong attention to detail, creativity, and innovation.
